Two of the best breakfasts in Portland, Maine are practically next door to each other! If you haven’t been to Ten Ten Pié and Union Bagel to treat yourself for breakfast, then you are really missing out.
For a sit-down breakfast, I always bring our out-of-town friends to Marcy’s Diner (despite the recent controversy!), but for an almost daily ritual, I’ve been frequenting one or the other of these two fantastic bakeries located on Cumberland Ave. On the one hand, you’ve got the chewy Union Bagel (or weekend Bialy) with egg and cheese, and on the other hand, you’ve got a lovely selection of sweet and savory pastries at Ten Ten Pié that will delight even the most finicky palate.
If you get over to Ten Ten Pié, I highly recommend the kale and feta pie, the egg salad on a croissant, and the twice baked almond croissant, as well as the Kouign Amann–best sweet roll ever! My list goes on: their bento boxes provide great lunch options for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. They always have the best avocadoes. I stock up my pantry with the ramen noodles in their grocery section, and their coffee is on point. If I haven’t convinced you to check them out, then I don’t know what else to say… Both of these local businesses offer fantanstic ways to fill your belly with fresh, fast food that comes from the heart.
Happy Eating, Portland!
